The small, rich, golden-yellow flowers of the bulbous buttercup are saucer-shaped and appear at the end of spring. Its height is usually given as 15/40 cm but it can sometimes grow up to 80 cm high. It is perfectly easy to grow, and is ideal for borders and rock gardens, though the soil must not be allowed to get too dry. Buttercups are easily overlooked and often regarded as lawn weeds and a thorough nuisance, but they can be quite the reverse, perking things up round the garden.
