TUBERS, CORMS and RHIZOMES

These are slightlydiffrent kinds of storage organs, the difference being that tubers are actually awollen stems or roots, corms are a swollen piece of last year's stem and rhyzomes are swollen modified stems. These botanical terms are rarely used. They are all variants on a theme, and it's not always easy to tell one form another; erythronium bulbs are often confused with other organs.
